At a press conference, the Justice Minister, Igor Filkov, called on courts of all instances and the Judicial Council to take action to review the entire case of the tragically killed Frosina.
"I inform you that today I have made a decision to dismiss from membership in a working group at the Ministry of Justice, the judge whose name is causing a stir in the public. The judge was part of the working group formed in December 2020 for amendments to the Criminal Code and was part of the optimized working group for the rapid amendments to the Criminal Code with which we expect to eliminate the harmful consequences caused by the amendments in 2023. I am doing this in order not to discredit the process that has been started for the necessary substantive reforms in the judiciary," Filkov said.
Filkov believes that it is high time for competent institutions to show that they are ready to take measures to locate the culprits and possible liability.
"Accountability must be established and there are no compromises here. Citizens expect justice and institutions are obliged to deliver it quickly, fairly and transparently. This case is only confirmation of the data for the assessment of the work of the courts that was presented just a few days ago. It was the speed of action and corruption that were detected as the biggest problem of the judiciary with the lowest score," said the Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov.
According to Filkov, the lack of action and slowness opens the possibility of having the same or similar cases in the future.
"I appeal to all political actors in the country not to try to misuse this unfortunate case for daily political purposes. The judicial system must be changed fundamentally, from the outside, but also, from the inside. I will not allow impunity and untouchability," said Filkov.
