The Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, together with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Pance Toskovski, and the UNHCR representative, Gabriel Gualano de Godoy, visited the reception transit center Vinojug - Gevgelija, where they met with asylum seekers and employees of the center.
At the meeting, our commitment to the Global Refugee Forum for improving the status and operationalization of free legal aid for asylum seekers was reviewed, the SOP for dealing with individuals traveling in mixed migration movements in asylum court proceedings, translation and interpretation, improving their status, as well as the urgent need to resolve the legal status in reception transit centers.
The Ministry of Justice remains committed to providing free legal aid to all individuals seeking asylum in our country.
Asylum seekers have the right to a fair trial and legal protection, and our goal is to provide them with this through an effective and humane approach. Providing free legal aid is a key step in protecting their rights.
The Vinojug Reception Center, which functions as an important part of the national migration management system, provides temporary accommodation and support for individuals seeking international protection. The Minister informed that in cooperation with non-governmental organizations and international partners, the Government will work to improve the conditions and access to legal aid.
This is not only a national, but also a global obligation. The Republic of North Macedonia, as a country that strives for European values, will continue to be in solidarity and justice towards those in need of protection.
