The tenth session of the Working Group for Electoral Legislation Reform was held today, at which the examination of proposals for amendments and additions to the Electoral Code in accordance with the obligations of the Reform Agenda continued.
The members of the Working Group reviewed the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations arising from the previous election cycle, with the largest part of the recommendations for which a consensus was reached were accepted and appropriately incorporated into the proposed solutions. At the same time, they were reviewed and proposals submitted by political parties and competent state institutions.
The purpose of the proposed changes is to further align the electoral legislation with international standards, strengthen legal certainty, improve the transparency of the electoral process and implement the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR. This creates conditions for additional consolidation of democratic processes and strengthening of citizens' confidence in the electoral system.
The working group concluded that significant progress has been achieved in the preparation of amendments and additions to the Electoral Code. The largest part of the key questions has already been examined, and in the next period the harmonization of the remaining proposals will continue with the aim of preparing the final text.
The next meeting of the Working Group is scheduled for Thursday, at which the remaining open questions will be reviewed and the proposed solutions will be finalized. It is expected that a comprehensive proposal-text for amendments and additions to the Electoral Code will be prepared in the short term, which will reflect the reached agreements and accepted recommendations.
