The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Expertise France, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Embassy of France in the Republic of North Macedonia, officially confirming their joint commitment to the promotion of climate and environmental justice in the country.
The memorandum establishes a framework for the implementation of the regional project "Convergence on Climate and Environmental Justice" (CEJ Convergence), the aim of which is to improve access to justice and strengthen public participation in issues related to the environment in Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro, in accordance with European standards and legislation of the European Union.
By signing the document, the institutions confirm their commitment to strengthening the rule of law in the area of the environment, improving institutional capacities and encouraging the wider involvement of citizens in decision-making processes affecting the environment and climate policies.
The project will enable technical support, exchange of expertise, organization of trainings and development of mechanisms for good application of the principles of environmental justice. As part of the collaboration, administrative and advisory bodies will be established to ensure coordinated and transparent implementation of the activities.
The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning will work together with French institutions to improve national capacities and bring the country closer to European practices in the area of environmental protection and access to justice.
