The Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, participated in the round table on the topic: "Advancement of electoral reforms in North Macedonia - from recommendations to implementation"

The Minister of Justice Igor Filkov participated in the round table on the topic: "Advancement of electoral reforms in North Macedonia - from recommendations to implementation", in the organization of the project "Program for support of elections in North Macedonia", implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), as well as ODIHR through the project "Support of electoral reforms in the Western Balkans", financed by the European Union.
In his address, Minister Filkov said that electoral reforms represent a key segment of the country's democratic development and the basis for strengthening citizens' trust in institutions and the electoral process.
The Ministry of Justice approaches this process seriously, transparently and inclusively. Amendments to the Electoral Code were prepared based on the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR, a working group was formed with the participation of all parliamentary political parties and independent supporters, and wide consultations with relevant institutions and the civil sector were conducted in parallel.
"Nevertheless, a broad political consensus is necessary for the implementation of essential electoral reforms. In this direction, the Ministry of Justice expresses its regret for the decision of the SDSM to leave the Working Group at the moment when key decisions are being made, which represents a withdrawal from the reform process and its blockade. It is expected that this decision will be reviewed in the interest of the European integration of the country and, above all, in the interest of the citizens", emphasized the Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov.
The Ministry of Justice remains committed to conducting an inclusive process, based on open dialogue and joint decision-making. It will continue to actively lead the electoral reform process, with the aim of ensuring fair, democratic and credible elections.
The Ministry remains open for cooperation and is ready to review and incorporate all constructive proposals in the direction of improving the electoral legislation.
