The Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, in Valletta, Malta, participated in the conference: "On strengthening cooperation in the fight against transnational crime" of the Ministers of Justice, which was attended by the member states of the Council of Europe.
The Minister, together with his colleagues from 43 member states, discussed on three topics regarding the strengthening of mutual cooperation in the fight against transnational crime, including: modernizing judicial cooperation through digital tools, new challenges for the application of law in international cooperation, and limiting the safe space for transnational crime by strengthening judicial cooperation and synergy between national authorities.
Discussing the next steps in international cooperation in criminal proceedings, the Minister stressed that, faced with the accelerated technological development, global crises, wars and conflicts on the one hand, as well as the sophisticated methods of crime that constantly finds new ways to carry out its activities and which know no borders, it is necessary to advance international cooperation.
For this reason, the Minister emphasized the determination that it is necessary to modernize the methods of international cooperation through electronic communication, video conferencing, monitoring of communications, as well as the most sensitive measure – interception of communications.
However, given that it deeply penetrates the sphere of human rights, it is necessary to create clear rules for coordination and balance between efficient investigation and protection of human rights.
