The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe has given a positive opinion on the Draft Law on the Public Prosecution Service and the Draft Law on the Council of Public Prosecutors.
Today, in Venice, the 114th plenary session of the European Commission for Democracy through Law - Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, was held, at which the Joint Opinion on the Draft Law on the Public Prosecution Service and the Draft Law on the Council of Public Prosecutors of the Republic of North Macedonia was adopted.
In the adopted opinion, the Commission gave a positive assessment of the process and content of the developed laws, welcomed the reform efforts of the Ministry of Justice. It was indicated that the two draft laws comply with international standards and implement all recommendations. Several additional suggestions were also given in order to improve the legal texts.
This confirms that the laws are fully aligned with the European principles of professionalism and efficiency of the public prosecution service, as well as with the standards for transparent and accountable functioning of the Council of Public Prosecutors.
At the plenary session, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Deanoska Trendafilova, as President of the Working Group that prepared the two laws, addressed the audience.
The Ministry of Justice will continue to work dedicatedly to implementing the recommendations, improving judicial institutions and strengthening the rule of law in the Republic of North Macedonia.
This positive opinion is an important confirmation of our European commitment, the transparent and inclusive approach that we apply in the process of reforming the judiciary and the commitment to building a legal system that reflects the highest standards of democracy, justice and integrity.
The two laws are part of the Reform Agenda of the European Union with a deadline of December 2025.
