Shasivari had a meeting with the president of the Basic Criminal Court Skopje and with the lay judges

The Minister of Justice, Jeton Shasivari,  and the Deputy Minister of Justice, Alen Dereban held a working meeting with the President of the Basic Criminal Court of Skopje, Daniela Dimovska, as well as with the lay judges , where they discussed their demands and the challenges they face in the performance of their duties, with a special emphasis on the heights of substitutes.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that lay judges have an important role in the judicial system, ensuring the active participation of citizens in the exercise of judicial authority and contributing to transparency, fairness and strengthening of trust in the judiciary.
The Ministry of Justice was informed that in June 2026, the Judicial Council submitted a request for changes to the Rulebook for the payment of lay  judges  from 2018, which proposes to increase the height of the payment.
In the discussions, it was emphasized that the courts are faced with a shortage of judges-jurors, which represents a serious challenge for the uninterrupted functioning of the judicial councils and the timely handling of cases.
The Ministry of Justice will review the submitted proposals and remains committed to finding sustainable solutions that will enable the efficient functioning of the judicial system, with appropriate evaluation of the role and contribution of the lay  judges  in the administration of justice and the rule of law.
