Shasivari: We continue with a strong partnership with the USA for the rule of law and the fight against corruption

Today, the Minister of Justice, Jeton Shasivari, had a meeting with Nicole Varnes, Acting Head of Mission at the Embassy of the United States of America, at which the strong and continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the USA, as a strategic partner in the implementation of reforms in the judiciary, was confirmed.
At the meeting, the key priorities of the Ministry of Justice were discussed, with an emphasis on reforms in the judiciary, the rule of law, the digitalization of the judicial system, the legislative agenda and the fight against corruption. The  Minister of Justice, Jeton Shasivari, requested in the next period to enable the exchange of experience and expert assistance from the USA in the field of criminal legislation.
Minister Shasivari expressed his gratitude for the continuous support that the USA provides for the Ministry of Justice and for the reform processes in the countries, stressing that it has a significant role in strengthening institutional capacities, especially in the fight against transnational organized crime, as well as in the promotion of cooperation between domestic institutions and international partners.
The focus of the talks was on the reform of the criminal legislation, which remains one of the strategic priorities of the Ministry of Justice. In this direction, it was emphasized that the implementation of the project "Support for the implementation of the National Strategy for Drugs in the Republic of North Macedonia" has begun, financed by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the US State Department.
At the meeting, the joint commitment to the further deepening of the partnership through new joint projects, expert support and exchange of experiences in areas of common interest was confirmed.
The Ministry of Justice remains firmly committed to implementing reforms, strengthening the rule of law and meeting European standards, in the interest of citizens and the European integration of the state.
