Meeting of the Sectoral Working Group in the field of Justice

Meeting of the Sectoral Working Group in the field of Justice

A meeting of the Sectoral Working Group was held today, at which the Development Sector Strategy for the Judiciary (2024-2028), the Reform Agenda, as well as the IPA 3 Action Document for familiarizing all key stakeholders with the course and development of processes in the Justice sector, were presented.

Discussing the reforms and priorities, at the meeting it was pointed out that the Judicial Council and the Public Prosecutor's Office must be completely free from political influence and function exclusively in the service of justice, and the legal amendments will create a basis for independence and professionalism.

Through a transparent and inclusive process, we want to improve the legal framework for the work of the Judicial Council in accordance with the recommendations provided by the European Union Evaluation Mission.

In parallel, we are currently preparing a new Law on Public Prosecution, and the same working group will also work on the preparation of a Draft Law on the Council of Public Prosecutors.

Additionally, since August 2024, the Ministry of Justice has begun the process of drafting a new Law on Judicial Service, which aims to improve the existing regulation and provide better working conditions and protection of the rights of employees in the institutions of the judicial system.

In terms of strengthening the independence of the judicial system, digitalization, i.e. the application of information technology, also plays a key role.

The goal of the Ministry of Justice is to ensure continuity in the implementation of the Reform Agenda and the Development Sector Strategy for the Judiciary, in order to create a fair, efficient, and transparent judicial system that responds to the needs of citizens, in line with international standards.

These activities aim to create a stable and sustainable system that will contribute to internal development and that will position the country as a partner of the international community and a credible candidate for membership in the European Union.
