The Minister of Justice, Jeton Shasivari, met with the Vice Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank, Tomas Boček, at which the activities for the implementation of the project "Reconstruction of Penitentiary Institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia" were reviewed.
The project, which is being implemented with a loan from the CEB in the amount of 46 million euros, aims to improve the conditions in penitentiary institutions and provide modern conditions for accommodation, health care, hygiene, work and leisure activities for convicted and detained inmates, in accordance with European standards.
Activities during 2026 continue according to the planned dynamics. An agreement for expert supervision over the construction was also concluded in July 2026, while the procedure for selecting a contractor for the construction of the planned facilities is ongoing.
The Ministry of Justice remains committed to improving the system for the enforcement of sanctions and creating modern and European conditions in penitentiary institutions.
