The process of expert discussions on the amendments to the Law on the Judicial Council has ended

In his address to the Supreme Court, the Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, said that all the proposals made so far have been noted and, together with today's ones, will be forwarded to an optimized working group that will prepare the appropriate legal amendments.

"I believe that we will have an appropriate legal solution that will lay the foundation for the efficient functioning of this body. The Judicial Council should restore its legitimacy, professionalism and integrity by properly applying legal norms. The reform agenda that was officially approved by the European Commission on October 23 of this year, obliges us to have a new Law on the Judicial Council by June 2025, which will address the recommendations of the Evaluation Mission. It does not expect the obligation for the draft law to be reviewed by the Venice Commission before its adoption in our country, which creates pressure to complete the process as soon as possible. The implementation of each legal norm from this section depends on each judge, public prosecutor, member of the Judicial Council, member of the Council of Public Prosecutors and the dignity and professionalism of each of them”, emphasized Minister Filkov.

To achieve the assessment that the rule of law is implemented in our country, it is not enough that only the state institutions` actions are sufficient, but the processing of each criminal charge within a reasonable time, the filing of appropriate and substantiated indictments and, of course, efficient court proceedings in relation to each filed indictement are also crucial.
Only a completely closed circle in an efficient procedure is proof that the system in the country is functional.
This is a joint commitment that requires a joint contribution in order to restore the trust of citizens in the judicial institutions.
