The Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, had a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan, H.E.Kazuya Otsuka, and the topic of discussion were: reforms in the judiciary, conditions in the Judicial Council and the Council of Public Prosecutors, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.
The Ministry of Justice faces many challenges, the ultimate goal of which is to increase citizens' confidence in the judiciary. That trust is the basis for strengthening of business relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Otsuka pointed out and identified the situations in the justice system, about which he and the Minister agreed that quick and urgent reforms are needed. Specific guidelines were discussed on how to put the judiciary on an independent footing.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of our country's bilateral cooperation with Japan. It is planned that in the coming period it will be deepened and experiences from the field of law will be exchanged.
