Filkov-Pandov: Urgent reforms to improve conditions in prisons

The Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, had a meeting with the Acting Director of the Directorate for Enforcement of Sanctions, Aleksandar Pandov. They discussed the conditions and the situation in penitentiary institutions, as well as about undertaking activities to improve the conditions, prevent corruption, violence and appropriate treatment of convicted persons.

It has been agreed to intensify the implementation of the "Reconstruction of Penitentiary Institutions" Project in the coming period, which is being implemented with a loan from the European World Bank for Development.

The successful implementation of the Project is only one of the bases for improving the overall situation with conditions in prisons, the treatment of detained and convicted persons, as well as the achievement of resocialization of persons who have served prison sentences.
