The Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe-Mission in Skopje, organized the first public hearing for the areas of the Skopje and Stip Appeal Courts on the Draft Law on Criminal Procedure.
This type of discussions will also be held for the areas of the Appellate Courts in Bitola and Gostivar. The event was attended by: judges, prosecutors, lawyers, police officers and representatives of the civil sector.
The public hearing was opened by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Alen Deraban, who in his address, referred to the key amendments to the Law on Criminal Procedure, the purpose of which is to implement EU directives, as well as to eliminate the shortcomings that were detected in the previous application of the law.
"Especially important are the novelties relating to the freezing of assets and confiscation, the electronic delivery and digitization of the criminal procedure, the improvement of the provisions for special investigative measures and the increase of efficiency, the strengthening of the procedural rights of victims in accordance with the standards of the European Union and the Council of Europe, as well as the introduction of provisions for the mandatory implementation of financial investigations in order to suppress corruption and economic criminality and other significant innovations," said Dereban.
The Deputy Minister pointed out that dealing with corruption and organized crime is one of the top priorities of this Government and the Ministry of Justice is intensively working on promotion and finding appropriate legal solutions in order to suppress these phenomena.
