Shasivari: Public policies must be based on knowledge and facts

Minister of Justice Jeton Shasivari today participated in the round table "Improving the research and analytical function in political parties - legal and comparative experiences".

Shasivari stressed that party research and analytical centers (PIACs) have an important role in improving the quality of policies, public debate and democratic processes.

"PIACs should be places where politics confronts facts, and data and analysis are used to make decisions better", said Shasivari.

He emphasized that with the use of public funds to finance PIACs comes public responsibility, especially with regard to the quality of research, analysis and recommendations arising from them.

"Public funds must produce public value. These funds are intended for research, analysis, policy development and building professional capacities. Therefore, we need to have not only rules on how the funds are spent, but also a culture of accountability for what those funds produce. What research has been done? What analyses have been prepared? What policies have been evaluated? What recommendations have emerged from them? How has the data been used? What contribution have these centers made to policy development? These are the questions we need to ask. Not to limit political work, but to make it more serious, of higher quality and more responsible," emphasized Shasivari.

The Minister also stressed the importance of inter-party cooperation in the field of research and knowledge.

"We may disagree about solutions, but we can agree that solutions should be based on accurate data and serious analysis," emphasized Shasivari.

As the Ministry of Justice, it is our responsibility to provide a clear and functional legal framework.
