The improvement of the conditions in penal institutions and the consistent respect for human rights were part of the topics discussed at today's meeting of the Minister of Justice, Jeton Shasivari, with Alan Michel, the President of the European Committee for Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT).
At the meeting, the current conditions in the penitentiary institutions were reviewed, as well as the progress in the implementation of the recommendations contained in the previous reports of the Committee.
Cooperation with the CPT is important for improving the system for enforcement of sanctions and ensuring respect for human rights and the dignity of persons deprived of their freedom.
In the coming period, the Ministry of Justice will continue to work on improving the standards in the penitentiary system, in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee and European practices.
