Parliament Adopts Law on Civil Procedure

Ministry of Justice Ministry of Justice

With 81 votes in favor, 9 against and no abstentions, the Parliament adopted the new Law on Civil Procedure, which represents one of the key reform steps towards improving the judicial system and harmonizing it with modern European standards.
The new legal solutions create conditions for faster, more efficient and higher-quality court proceedings, as well as for greater legal certainty and better protection of the rights of citizens and legal entities.
The law envisages strengthening the role of the court in determining the factual situation, introducing modern digital tools in the operation of courts, as well as simplifying and accelerating procedures, especially in disputes of smaller value.
Among the significant innovations is the possibility of electronic delivery of documents and holding court hearings via electronic devices, which will further reduce the costs and duration of procedures.
The law also introduces representative lawsuits for the protection of collective interests and rights, thus expanding access to justice and creating new mechanisms for legal protection of citizens.
At the same time, fairer and more proportionate sanctions are envisaged during the procedures, and the legal solutions are harmonized with other systemic regulations in order to ensure a coherent, functional and predictable legal system.
The Ministry of Justice continues to implement the reform agenda aimed at an efficient judiciary, the rule of law and strengthening citizens' trust in institutions.
