Meeting of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe at the Ministry of Justice

Meeting of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe at the Ministry of Justice

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Justice with the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe regarding the draft laws on the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Council of Public Prosecutors – two key laws that are the basis for the further reform of the justice system.

In Skopje, experts from the Venice Commission – Ms. Nina Betteto (Slovenia), Mr. Thomas Rørdam (Denmark), Ms. Laura Vaik (Estonia) and Ms. Tania van Dijk (Secretary of the Commission) – met with representatives of the Ministry of Justice: Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Deanoska Trendafilova, Chair of the Working Group, Slavica Žerajić, Head of Department in the Justice Sector, Leona Kiceec, Advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister of Justice and Kristina Petrovska Veselinova, Secretary of the Working Group.

The aim of the meeting was to make consultations within the framework of the preparation of an opinion of the Venice Commission.

These consultations are part of a broader reform agenda that aims to implement European standards in North Macedonia, strengthen the public prosecution service, and strengthen public trust in the justice system.

The Venice Commission's opinion will be adopted at its plenary session in Venice in October and represents a key step towards European integration, transparency, and professionalization of the prosecution office.
